RPI Habitat for Humanity (HFH) became the 700th official Campus Chapter in April 2002. Since that time we have worked on multiple sites in Rensselaer and Albany Counties. We have also fully sponsored and built a home in Troy (completed May 2004).
We are currently building a house on the corner of 11th and Hutton streets in Troy. This is the same site where two homes were completed last year. These houses were constructed in partnership with Rensselaer County Habitat for Humanity. The current build is expected to be completed this semester. Plans for future homes have already been developed and should be ready for NRB in the fall. Also to note, we made a $10,000 donation to Rensselaer County HFH to assist in the financing of the current house. A special thanks to those who have made our fundraising very successful over the past few years.
While building a home is the main goal of our organization, we’re also working on making our presence well known on campus and in the community. Along with the Activities Fair and Community Service Fair held in the fall, we also had a booth at the Fall Festival in October. RPI HFH also works with the Community Service groups on campus and every December we make gingerbread houses with children during Troy’s annual Victoria Stroll! And of course, you can’t forget the annual Spring Break trip. This year 12 students will be donating their time and efforts to work in Caldwell County, North Carolina for a week in March.
